Akshaya Patra是一个国际消除饥饿组织, 50%政府拨款支持,50%私人捐赠.在英美筹款,在印度及其他地区实施mid-day lunch计划.建立于2000年七月份,目前已经成功在8个州建立了18间厨房, 每天提供120万顿免费的午餐给上学的孩子.
Akshaya Patra is an international non-governmental-organization which aims to eliminate hunger.50% of fund are from government support, the other 50% from private donations. It donates from U.K and U.S, and implements mid-day lunch program in India. Akshaya Patra was established in July, 2000, has successfully established 18 kitchens in eight States. Now 1.2 million daily free lunches are provided to school children.
该午餐计划实施的背景是,印度很多下层社会的儿童,由于父母整体在田里工作,缺乏时间和精力为他们准备午餐的,所以他们只能处于饥饿中.更常见的情况则是，将近1350万印度的贫困儿童，仅仅只为挣得一天一顿简单的饭餐而辍学在家成为了童工。（来源：www.worldbank.org.in）
The background of this plan is that there are many poor children in India, whose parents work in the fields all the daytime so that they lack time and energy to cook lunch for their children. Thus, children can do nothing but empty stomach. Often, what is more common is that close to 13.5 million underprivileged children in India are out of school and into child labour in order to earn a single meal in a day. The surest way to break out of the cycle of poverty is through education. Education can significantly improve the quality of life of a family for generations to come. When the basic needs of a child, such as food are not met, education often becomes the last priority.
AKSHAYA PATRA通过为贫困儿童提供一顿健康、营养搭配合理的午餐使他们免于辍学在家。对于这些儿童来说，一顿午餐成为了他们能够持续接受教育的保证。这将帮助大大降低失学率，使更多的孩子出现在教室中接受教育。
AKSHAYA PATRA is helping underprivileged children by providing them with a healthy, balanced meal that they would otherwise have to work for. The meal is an incentive for them to continue their education. It helps reduce the dropout rate to an enormous extent and increases classroom attendance.
Akshaya Patra在各地建立了Kitchen(厨房工厂),每天通过机器化的生产线来准备午餐,然后用卡车载到每个学校,免费给孩子提供午餐.其目的在于让更多没有饭吃的孩子能吃上热腾腾的午饭,让更多的小孩子上学.(印度国立学校是免学费的,如果孩子们知道了学校有免费午餐吃,也就会喜欢去上学,饿肚子的滋味不好受.)
In order to serve for the children in hunger, Akshaya Patra established Kitchen in various areas to cook lunch specifically through the mechanism line everyday, then vehicles deliver the lunches to schools.
Akshaya Patra intends to let more children to eat fresh lunch, so that more children will go to school (the tuition fee of government schools in India are free, so if children and their parents know they can be offered with free mid-day meals, they are very likely to attend schools.)
